Farm Animals to Farm Flowers

Farming has always been part of my story. I'm Maria, and I grew up on Botany Bay Farm in Brush Prairie, Washington, a regenerative, pasture-raised farm where I learned early on how meaningful it is to care for the land and the animals it supports. It was always my dream to continue that tradition in some way.

As life changed and our family grew, I knew farming would look different—but I didn’t want to walk away from it. Alongside a small herd of beef cows and laying hens, I found a way to keep growing through flowers.

Why Dahlias?

Dahlias are endlessly beautiful, wonderfully diverse, and surprisingly simple to grow. They don’t require much space, which allows me to grow them right alongside family life. What began as a practical choice quickly became a way to share beauty with others.

Blooms by Botany Bay is very much a family effort. My husband, Zach, grew up in the same area and shares a deep love for the outdoors. He’s fully invested in supporting and growing this farm alongside me, whether in the garden or behind the scenes. Together with our extended family, we’re continuing a farming tradition on a smaller, more personal scale—rooted in care, connection, and a love for growing things to share.
